Display a Reminder in Windows with Task Scheduler


1. Click the Windows “Start” button

2. Select Administration Tools->Task Scheduler

3. In the left pane of the Task Scheduler application, click Task Scheduler Library

4. In the right pane of the Task Scheduler application, click Create Task

5. In the Task dialog box, click the General tab

6. Enter a Name and Description for this task

7. In the Task dialog box, click the Triggers tab then click the New button

8. In “Begin the task:” select On a schedule

9. Define the schedule for the reminder text to display, then click the OK button

10. In the Task dialog box, click the Actions tab, then click the New button

11. In “Action:” select Display a message

12. Enter a Title and Message to displayed as reminder text, then click the OK button

13. In the Task dialog box, click on the Conditions tab, uncheck “Stop if the computer switches to batter power” and uncheck “Start the task only if the computer is on AC power

14. In the Task dialog box, click on the Settings tab, check “Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed” and check “If the task fails, restart every:“, then click the OK button

Note: A new task will be listed in the Task Scheduler Library folder. To test the task, select the task and click the right mouse to display the context menu. Left Click “Run” on the context menu. The task should display a Dialog Box with the Title and Message. Click the OK button to close the task Dialog Box.

15. Close Task Scheduler by selecting the File->Exit menu

Note: The reminder text will display based on the defined schedule for the task

Optional Steps to display reminder on top of other windows

A. Using an editor (Notepad) create a file named msg.vbs
B. Save the following text in the file:

MsgBox “Message to display”, vbSystemModal

C. (replacement step#10) Click the Actions tab, then click the New button

D. (replacement step#11) In “Action:” select Start a program

E. (replacement step#12). Click the Browse… button and select msg.vbs, then click the OK button
